Protecting The Environment, Growing The Economy
Under the Governor's leadership, California has balanced
the need to clean up our air, water and land with promoting
economic growth. Since Governor Schwarzenegger took
office, California has put forward the first low carbon
fuel standard in the world, strongly supported lowering
vehicle emissions, preserved thousands of acres of
the state's beautiful parks and coastline, invested
record resources into clean technology and alternative
energy innovation and implementation, and worked with
lawmakers to take on climate change through the Global
Warming Solutions Act of 2006, to name a few.
A proposition that is currently being circulated to
qualify for California’s November ballot would repeal California’s clean energy and clean air law. Four years ago, with
support from businesses, environmental and health organizations,
California passed AB 32, a law that sets new clean energy and pollution control
standards in California, also known as the Global Warming
Solutions Act of 2006. This clean air and clean energy law has launched
our state to the forefront of the clean technology
industry – sparking innovation and clean energy businesses that
are creating hundreds of thousands of new California
jobs. If passed, this initiative would kill competition
and jobs from clean energy and technology businesses
and stifle billions of dollars in economic investments.
Governor Schwarzenegger will work tirelessly to protect
the Global Warming Solutions Act and prevent any dismantling
of California as a leader on balancing environmental
protection with economic and job growth as the top priority.
